What is CrossFit?

CrossFit training is constantly varied using functional movements performed at a high intensity. Simply put, we train to get you ready for anything you do in life! GPP, General Physical Preparedness.

Who should CrossFit?

CrossFit is for everyone from elite athletes to grandparents! CrossFit practices functional movements that everyone does on a daily basis. The only difference between the training needs of an elite athlete and a grandparent is weight, volume, and speed. What does that mean? Essentially it means that all the movements we do in CrossFit are universal in their ability to improve performance. Making an adjustment in a workout for a beginner (something we call ?scaling? a workout) means reducing the total reps or rounds, reducing the distance, eliminating the clock, reducing the weight, and/or reducing the complexity of a movement.

Joey Barbera, co-founder of Temple Fitness along with wife, Kelly Barbera, has a true passion for personal training and sports conditioning.

Joey is an NSCA Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), as well as an ISSA certified Specialist in Sports Conditioning and Fitness Therapy. He is a USAW (United States Weightlifting) level 1 sports performance trainer and level 1 CrossFit instructor. His passion for fitness began at the young age of 7 when he started his wrestling career. He went on to become a Division 1 wrestler at Lock Haven University, training and competing with some of the nation’s top athletes. In addition to wrestling, Joey trained under a nationally recognized powerlifting coach throughout high school, and now holds the title of Tennessee State Powerlifting Champion. It is through his experiences as a high school and collegiate athlete that he developed the skills and drive necessary to train athletes to reach their maximum potential.

Joey is CrossFit,TRX and Kettlebell certified, and he incorporates these as well as numerous other methods to create truly individualized training programs for each of his clients.

Embodies health & wellness as a lifestyle, as indicated by an extensive history of training & athletic participation & leadership. Adjunct instructor at Bryan University teaching Fitness Practicums to today’s up and coming personal trainers.

Carly “Carzilla” Neilson is a Level 1 certified Crossfit trainer and a Crossfit Olympic Lift certified trainer. She developed an interest in Crossfit while pursuing her degree in Exercise Science at MTSU. As a competitive athlete in high school, she had a work ethic that pushed her beyond her limits and she encouraged others to do the same. It was between high school and discovering Crossfit that Carly found out how difficult it can be to juggle all the tasks of being an adult and found herself 100 pounds heavier than she is now. She knew she had to take action and tried Crossfit. When she started out, she was barely able to do a push-up, but kept at it and went on to compete in the Crossfit Regionals as an individual. Crossfit not only changed how she looked and felt, it also changed the way she thought about exercise. She is enthusiastic about helping others achieve their goals and firmly believes anyone is capable of doing anything if they have the will to do it.

Misty Kirk

Misty is a CrossFit Level 1 certification holder, is an ACE certified Personal Trainer as well as CPR/AED certified. She studied Sociology, Nutrition and Spanish and played softball at the College of St. Benedict in MN.

Sports and fitness have played an essential part of her life. She has run half-marathons, participated in duathlons, adventure races and 24+ hour races in Iceland, Colorado, Georgia, Arizona, Oregon and Tennessee.

CrossFit has provided a great outlet for improved performance and high intensity competition. She placed in the top five in several recent local competitions and during last year’s Open in the top five percent regionally. She feels that whether you compete or not, CrossFit makes life better.
